SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A man was shot and killed by police in San Francisco early Friday morning, according to authorities. The shooting occurred hours after two pedestrians and a bicyclist were struck in a related hit-and-run.
The San Francisco Police Department responded at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to the area of Kearny and Post streets on reports of multiple hit-and-runs by a single vehicle. Arriving officers learned that a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed mounted the sidewalk and struck a woman and a girl. Shortly after, the suspect vehicle struck a bicyclist in the area of Sutter and Kearny streets.
At 1:35 a.m. Friday, SFPD officers found the suspect vehicle near Grant Avenue and Post Street. During contact with a man inside the vehicle, police shot the occupant, who authorities said was armed.
Officers provided aid before paramedics transported the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. No officers were reported to be injured during the confrontation.
The two pedestrians were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. SFPD said the bicyclist was not located.
