December 19, 2024 (PORT SUDAN) – United Nations Special Envoy for Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, will visit Port Sudan on Saturday, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Youssif confirmed to Sudan Tribune on Thursday. During his visit, Lamamra will meet with officials in Port Sudan to discuss developments in the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). He will also address international and regional efforts to contain the crisis, focusing on both security and humanitarian aspects. Lamamra recently participated in the third consultative meeting on enhancing coordination of peace initiatives and efforts in Sudan, which concluded on Wednesday in Nouakchott, Mauritania. The meeting, chaired by Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, adopted resolutions reinforcing a joint approach to coordination and collective action in response to the Sudanese crisis. A closing statement emphasized the importance of regular consultative meetings to exchange views on the current state of strategic coordination and to activate mediation and peace initiatives aimed at resolving the conflict while ensuring their complementarity.
