MILPITAS, Calif. (KRON) -- A family of four was found dead on Tuesday night inside a Milpitas apartment. The individuals have been identified by the Milpitas Police Department and the Santa Clara Medical Examiner, Lt. Tyler Jamison announced in a news conference Thursday afternoon.
Vinh Nguyen, 36, and Betty Pham, 36, were identified as the two adults found dead in the residence, according to Jamison. Their 9-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter were the two children deceased inside.
The incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide, according to MPD. Nguyen is being identified as the primary suspect.
Authorities will not be releasing the children's names at this time, per the request of the victims' family, Jamison said.
The exact cause of the death is still under investigation by the county's coroner, Jamison said. Each of the four family members sustained at least one gunshot wound, the lieutenant added.
MPD officers responded at 8:52 p.m. on Tuesday to a residence at Turing Apartments on McCandless Drive for a welfare check. Police entered the apartment and found the family deceased.
MPD has not received prior calls for service at that apartment, according to Jamison. Authorities said Wednesday this appeared to be an isolated incident.
Resources for suicide prevention can be found on Milpitas' website. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255) provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress.
