Police arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with a series of arsons around Sherman Oaks in October.
Los Angeles police officers detained him on an unrelated traffic violation on Wednesday, Dec. 18, and recognized him from a wanted poster by detectives, police said.
Detectives arrested him on suspicion of arson of a structure and arson of personal property in connection with a series of vehicle and property fires in the area of Ventura Boulevard and Kester Avenue, the Police Department said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department had responded to a trash fire on Oct. 19 as well as five vehicle fires, two dumpster fires and one structure fire on Oct. 21 that officials say they believe are connected to the suspect.
He was being held on a $230,000 bail.
There was an additional series of arsons in the area this past week that police are investigating in search of a suspect: There was a carport fire in the 4700 block of Kester, a structure fire in the 4600 block of Columbus Street and a commercial building fire in the 15000 block of Ventura.
Police said a male suspect was seen riding a bike at the Kester apartment complex before riding to the back of the carport around 10:30 p.m., getting off the bike and lighting a vehicle on fire. Around 11:40 p.m., someone on a bike was also seen in the area of the arson of the commercial building, they said.
Police ask anyone with information about the arsons to contact detectives at 213-486-7260. Anonymous tipsters can call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
