Suspect still sought in Tuolumne County highway stabbing that left 1 hurt

SONORA – A suspect is still being sought by authorities after a freeway stabbing in Tuolumne County left one person hurt.

California Highway Patrol says, a little after 2 p.m. on Dec. 15, officers responded along State Route 108 near Upper Mono Way to investigate a reported highway violence incident.

Officers found that a 57-year-old Tuolumne Resident had been stabbed and had to be flown to a hospital for treatment.

The suspect was a passenger in a 1998 Volkswagen Beetle. A Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted the vehicle just 15 minutes later at a Dollar General parking lot in Soulsbyville.

While the driver was detained and later arrested, officers say the actual stabbing suspect was nowhere to be found.

Authorities have not released the name of the stabbing suspect, who as of Thursday is still on the run.
