Vodney Cleveland has decided to back off of his commitment to Alabama.
The 4-star defensive lineman officially announced his decommitment on Monday night. The decision comes just a couple of months after Cleveland, a 2026 recruit, committed to Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide.

— Vodney Cleveland (@Vodney_Clev) December 17, 2024Cleveland is a significant loss for the Tide in the class of 2026. He’s currently ranked as the No. 91 overall player and the No. 9 defensive lineman in the country for that cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also an Alabama native and ranks as the No. 6 overall player from that state.
Cleveland attends Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama. He’s listed at 6-foot-3, 305 pounds.
As for his reasoning, Cleveland told Bama247 that he’s still considering the Crimson Tide but felt he made a decision “too early” in his process. He initially committed to Alabama on Oct. 31 — more than a year before the Early Signing Period for the class of 2026.
It’s still very early in the class of 2026, but Alabama does not currently have any commitments in that cycle. Cleveland is already the 4th 2026 prospect to decommit from Alabama. With the class of 2025 (mostly) in the rearview mirror, Alabama will surely ramp up its 2026 recruiting efforts in the coming weeks and months.
