Two people were arrested on suspicion of DUI during a sheriff’s department checkpoint conducted in Santee this weekend.
The Saturday checkpoint ran from 8:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the 9000 block of Mission Gorge Road, sheriff’s officials said Monday.
Out of 640 cars that passed through the checkpoint, 38 drivers were referred for a secondary evaluation, leading to the two arrests. Sheriff’s deputies also arrested one person on an outstanding warrant, four drivers were cited for driving without a license, and four others were cited for driving with a suspended license.
Sheriff’s officials said in a statement that motorists were advised that intoxicated driving did not just include alcohol, but also marijuana — medicinal or recreational — and some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs that can interfere with a person’s ability to drive safely.
