CMPD launching new Civilian Crash Investigation Unit in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A new Civilian Crash Investigation Unit is being announced Wednesday by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. CMPD said the new CCI Unit will "play a crucial role in achieving our goals of allowing officers to focus on priority calls and reducing wait times for those involved in minor crashes." CMPD said 71 percent of all vehicle crash reports are for minor crashes with no injuries and just property damage. The goal is to mitigate the number of reports patrol officers have to write.
