After joining the Aims Community College Board this past year, I inquired into what Aims was doing for first-generation (first-gen) students, as this particular group remains a passion of mine. What I’ve found is an institution where 50% of its students are first-gen and one that has taken powerful steps forward in support of this demographic. These students, the first in their families to attend college, represent an extraordinary blend of resilience, ambition, and courage.
