ACCIONA awarded $384m design and construction contract for Shuqaiq 1 desalination plant in KSA

The publicly owned Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has awarded ACCIONA, and its partner RTCC, the design and construction of the Shuqaiq 1 desalination plant on the Red Sea coast in Saudi Arabia. The contract amount awarded is worth $384 million, and the facility is expected to be completed in 2023. It is ACCIONA´S fifth desalination plant built in the country and the third awarded to the company by SWCC. The plant will be equipped with reverse osmosis technology and will have a daily capacity of 400,000 m3/day. It will help to improve the supply of drinking water and offset water shortages in south-west Saudi Arabia by providing a new source of potable water, a statement from ACC
