The recent $70 million Lotto Max jackpot win by an Ontario couple, Jennifer Stuart-Flynn and Kyle Murray, has captured public attention and sparked discussions about the implications of sudden wealth. This couple, hailing from Iroquois Falls, achieved this remarkable feat on their first-ever lottery ticket purchase . Their excitement is palpable as they envision a transformative future for their newborn child and themselves. This windfall stands in stark contrast to their previous financial struggles, highlighting the socio-economic disparities that can exist within communities.
A northern Ontario couple from Iroquois Falls has won the $70-million Lotto Max jackpot on their first try.
Jennifer Stuart-Flynn and Kyle Murray held the winning ticket from the Aug. 20 Lotto Max draw.
“I realize my kids are going to have a much better life than I had and that makes me the most emotional. They are set and won’t have to wonder or worry about anything anymore,” said Stuart-Flynn.
Murray was waiting at the Timmins airport to pick up his mother, who was coming to help with the newborn, when Stuart-Flynn texted him, asking him to buy a Lotto Max ticket after seeing on social media the jackpot was at $70 million.
Murray went to an Esso on Algonquin Boulevard in Timmins, asked the retailer for some help and bought his very first Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49 Quick Pick tickets with Encore.
When he got home, he put the tickets on the fridge as a reminder. Shortly after the draw, Stuart-Flynn heard the jackpot-winning ticket was sold in their area, so she scanned them on her phone while having cereal at the kitchen table.
Stuart-Flynn said realizing that her kids "are going to have a much better life than I had," makes her emotional.
"They are set and won’t have to wonder or worry about anything anymore," she said.
One of the things they are going to do with the money is buy her sister a house.
"I love her and she is the greatest person in the world and she deserves it," Stuart-Flynn said.
Murray said he wants to buy land and build a "little farm."
He bought the winning ticket at the Esso gas station on Algonquin Boulevard in Timmins.
Stuart-Flynn wants to buy her sister a home and make sure she is taken care of, describing her as “the most kind, loving, and generous person in the world.”
The couple also wants to buy some land and set up a little farm with chickens and a highland cow.
