Premier League : Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester

The Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Leicester City, ending in a 2-2 draw, exemplified the competitive nature of English football. Both teams displayed resilience and tactical acumen throughout the encounter, which took place on a vibrant matchday at Selhurst Park. Crystal Palace initially took the lead with an incisive goal, showcasing their attacking prowess. However, Leicester's response was swift; they equalized shortly after and subsequently took the lead themselves, demonstrating their capacity to capitalize on defensive lapses from their opponents.

Jamie Vardy had opened the scoring for Leicester midway through the first half, collecting Wilfred Ndidi’s pass before rounding Dean Henderson and sliding the ball into the unguarded net.

It was 2-0 just 23 seconds into the second half, Ndidi capitalising on a poor clearance from Palace debutant Maxence Lacroix and teeing up Stephy Mavididi, who fired high into the net from close range.

Mateta’s close-range finish from Tyrick Mitchell’s low cross was allowed to stand following a video assistant referee (VAR) check, but time appeared to be running out for Palace until Coady’s lunge on Sarr gifted the Frenchman the opportunity to level the score.

Despite not having much of the ball in the second half, Leicester were rarely threatened by a disjointed Palace side who, Eberechi Eze aside, offered little in creativity.

New £30 million signing Eddie Nketiah was kept largely quiet on debut following his move from Arsenal, aside from one fizzing shot that whistled just wide in the second half.

Guehi, subject of several bids from Newcastle in the transfer window, looked anything but a £70 million defender — the price Palace quoted to end Newcastle’s pursuit of the England centre-back — as Vardy, in particular, gave him a torrid time in the first half.

The draw leaves both Crystal Palace and Leicester City still searching for their first win of the season. However, it is Palace who will take greater satisfaction from this result. Avoiding a third Premier League defeat and securing a point in such dramatic fashion provides a significant morale boost for Hodgson’s side.

The veteran frontman almost turned provider before the interval, capitalising on another Guehi error before squaring for Mavididi, who failed to steer his effort on target.

Mavididi made amends in the opening minute of the second half, but it was not enough to earn the visitors a first league win of the campaign.

They defended resolutely for much of the second half, but Coady’s lunging tackle on Sarr proved costly.
