Khyree Jackson Vikings Rookie Dies in Maryland Car Accident

With deep sorrow, we lament the passing of Khyree Jackson, a talented newcomer for the Minnesota Vikings, who tragically perished in a car crash in Maryland. This tragic event has reverberated through the football world, underscoring the delicate nature of life.

Jackson was renowned for his outstanding skills on the field and his unwavering commitment to the sport. His premature demise is a blow not just to his fellow players and mentors but also to enthusiasts eagerly awaiting his performance in the forthcoming season. The void left by his absence will resonate well beyond the confines of the football arena.

Minnesota Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson died early Saturday morning in a car accident in Maryland.

The Upper Marlboro, Maryland native played for the University of Alabama and the University of Oregon. He was drafted by the Vikings in April in round 4 as the 108th overall pick.

    He was 24 years old.

"Our thoughts are with Khyree's family, friends, teammates and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident," the Vikings wrote on X.

Jackson was in the front passenger seat of a maroon Dodge Charger and was traveling with Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton, 24.

Hazel, the driver, and Jackson died at the scene, police said. Lytton was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities said the driver of a silver Infiniti, identified as Cori Clingman, was traveling northbound on Route 4 and attempted to change lanes while "driving at a high rate of speed." The Infiniti struck the Charger and then hit a Chevrolet Impala, the news release states.

General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said Jackson was “taking steps to become the best version of himself” and his “personality captured every room he was in.”

“I’m devastated that his life and everything that he had in front of him has been cut short,” Adofo-Mensah said in a statement.

Jackson showed NFL promise during his senior season at Oregon. In 12 games, he accrued three interceptions, seven pass break-ups, two sacks and 34 total tackles, leading to an All-Pac-12 first-team selection.

The release indicated troopers responded to a crash after 3 a.m. Saturday and found three vehicles were involved. According to a preliminary investigation, the Charger was struck by a silver Infinity Q50 and traveled off the road. The Infinity Q50 then struck a silver Chevrolet Impala.

Occupants of the Infinity Q50 and Chevrolet Impala reported no injuries, according to the press release.
