Colombia's recent victory over Panama with a score of 5-0 was a remarkable display of skill and strategy on the field. The Colombian team exhibited exceptional teamwork and coordination throughout the match, dominating their opponents in every aspect of the game.
One key factor that contributed to Colombia's success was their strong offensive play. The team consistently created scoring opportunities and capitalized on them with precision and accuracy. Their ability to maintain possession of the ball and move it effectively up the field put immense pressure on Panama's defense.
Colombia were the winners of Group D, holding off Brazil to draw their final group stage match. They won against Costa Rica and Paraguay, scoring 6 goals in the group stage. They’re also on a 26-match unbeaten streak dating back to 2022, and they hope to continue their torrid pace.
Panama is the shock second place team out of Group C, holding off the USMNT by beating Bolivia in their final match. They come in with a ton of house money, and they hope to continue to shock everyone with their play and hopefully take out Colombia.
In the second match, Uruguay enters as the Group C winners, and they beat the USMNT in their final match without coach Marcelo Bielsa on the sidelines. They’ve been pretty dangerous lately, and it sets up a terrific chance for them to get to the semifinals.
Panama, not expected by most to have made it as far as the quarterfinals, trailed 3-0 at halftime and changed goalkeepers. By then, the game's outcome was hardly in doubt.
"I'd hoped for more from us. We got a lesson in how to play at a higher level," Panama head coach Thomas Christensen said. "Our place is third or fourth in CONCACAF (North American soccer region). That's good for us but we'd like to increase our level to be closer to USA, Canada and Mexico. But that's only possible with hard work."
At MetLife Stadium, where a semifinal will be played July 9, staff will look at it as a preview for the World Cup final on July 19, 2026. The stadium has a camera system designed by Arecont Vision and managed by Genetec Security Center that was installed before the 2014 Super Bowl and a new system by Axis Communications is being put in place this summer in the seating bowl with 80 8K, 41-megapixel cameras.
