Standing Ovation for Willie Nelson in First Performance Since Latest Health Scare.

Willie Nelson, a legendary country music artist, received a standing ovation at his first performance since his latest health scare. The 86-year-old musician had to cancel several shows earlier this year due to breathing problems, causing concern among his fans. However, Nelson proved that he is still a force to be reckoned with as he took the stage and delivered an unforgettable performance.

Nelson's resilience and dedication to his craft were evident as he sang with passion and energy, captivating the audience with his timeless hits. Despite his age and health issues, Nelson's voice remains strong and emotive, showcasing why he is considered one of the greatest musicians of all time.

Throughout Willie’s recent stretch of absences, his son, Lukas Nelson, has led his Family Band at the initial stops on the Outlaw tour. Lukas was on hand on Thursday, too, to welcome his dad back into the fold with featured appearances on the Larry Davis-penned, Stevie Ray Vaughan-popularized “Texas Flood” and Pearl Jam‘s “Just Breathe”. Other highlights of the set included the live debut of recently released Willie tune “The Border” and, of course, a rendition of “On The Road Again” that packed an extra emotional punch following the Red-Headed Stranger’s recent stint on the disabled list. Watch a selection of videos of Willie Nelson performing at his 2024 4th of July Picnic in Camden, NJ below.

Nelson proceeded to take a seat on a stool and began playing several hits, including “On the Road Again,” “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys” and “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground.”

As an added treat for concertgoers, Nelson performed his new song “The Border” for the first time live.

A few songs later came a tentatively gorgeous “I Never Cared For You.” It was like watching a baseball pitcher take a few innings to feel things out, getting by on craft and nerve before reminding everyone exactly what makes him an ace.

“Y’all doing all right?” Willie asked the crowd. “Been gone for a while, but it’s good to be back. Real lucky to be here and thank you for coming.” He also thanked everyone for the “fan mail,” in case you wondered whether Willie reads Instagram comments. (He probably also got real mail.)

This year's event was held just outside of Philadelphia at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey.

Also performing at the festive concert alongside Nelson were Bob Dylan, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Maren Morris, Mavis Staples and Celisse.
