Firefighter injured, neighbors rescue homeowner in east Charlotte house fire
CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- One firefighter was injured and neighbors rescued a homeowner in an early morning house fire in east Charlotte, fire officials said. The house fire happened before 1:30 a.m. Friday, July 5, in the 4300 block of Abbeydale Drive. According to the Charlotte Fire Department, there were no working smoke detectors inside the house and the homeowner was alerted to the fire due to neighbors pounding on his door. Thirty firefighters were able to get the fire under control in 20 minutes. One firefighter was injured and treated at the scene by EMS. Charlotte Fire determined the cause of the fire was "improperly disposed smoking materials" into a plastic t
