Flights from Manchester Airport canceled after power cut

On the morning of September 10th, travelers at Manchester Airport were met with frustration and confusion as a power cut led to the cancellation of multiple flights. The unexpected outage caused chaos in the terminal, with passengers left stranded and unsure of when they would be able to reach their destinations.

The disruption highlighted the vulnerability of modern air travel infrastructure to unforeseen events. As one of the busiest airports in the UK, Manchester Airport plays a crucial role in connecting people and goods across the country and beyond. The outage, which affected Terminals 1 and 2, was caused by a power supply issue in the surrounding area. Airport officials warned travellers that baggage might not always be on flights, adding to the disruption.

"Manchester Airport was affected by a major power cut in the area this morning", it explained.

"This has caused widespread disruption and a significant number of flights, particularly from Terminals 1 and 2, are expected to be delayed or cancelled."

Passengers are being urged to check before making their way to the airport.

Bosses also apologised, and explained they'd "aim to restore service as soon as possible."

Footage of huge queues of people already inside the airport have been posted to social media.

The airport posted a statement this morning on its official X, formerly Twitter, account, informing passengers of the power cut.

It said: “Manchester Airport was affected by a major power cut in the area earlier this morning. This has caused widespread disruption and a significant number of flights, particularly from Terminal 1 and 2, are expected to be delayed or cancelled.

Passengers already inside the airport face significant delays and possible cancellations, with images showing huge queues of people there this morning.

Terminals 1 and 2 are severely affected, while flights from Terminal 3 are also facing some delays.

In a bid to control crowds and get the operation back on track, the airport has ordered airlines to cut out a swathe of flights over several hours later this morning.

The aim is to get passengers already at the airport away, and then resume as close to schedule as possible during the afternoon and evening.
