Stanley Cup : Edmonton Oilers beat Panthers 5-1

The Edmonton Oilers secured a decisive victory over the Florida Panthers in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals, winning by a score of 5-1. This victory was a testament to the Oilers' skill and determination throughout the series, as they consistently outplayed their opponents on both ends of the ice. The team's strong defensive play limited the Panthers' scoring opportunities, while their offensive prowess allowed them to capitalize on numerous chances.

One of the standout performers for the Oilers was goaltender Mike Smith, who made several key saves to keep his team in control of the game. Additionally, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were instrumental in generating scoring chances and finding the back of the net multiple times throughout the match. Their chemistry and skill on the ice proved to be too much for the Panthers to handle.

The Oilers defeated the Florida Panthers 5-1 in Game 6 at Rogers Place in Edmonton Friday, their third consecutive win to level the best-of-seven series.

Edmonton improved to 5-0 when facing elimination this postseason.

“We’ve been in it a bunch,” said Zach Hyman, who scored Edmonton’s third goal of the game and his 16th of the playoffs. “I mean obviously the moment gets bigger every game we go further, but it’s just another elimination game where our backs were against the wall. Obviously the crowd was unbelievable getting it started.

“But we’re comfortable playing in these games. I think we’ve proven we can play in them. We’ve played in a bunch of them.”

Aleksander Barkov scored, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 16 saves for the Panthers, the Eastern Conference champions, who were 0-for-3 on the power play, falling to 1-for-19 with two short-handed goals against in the series.

"Right now, if you walked into the room, there won't be a lot of happy people," Florida coach Paul Maurice said. "It doesn't have to be right tonight. You've suffered a defeat. You feel it. It hurts. You lick your wounds and we start building that back tomorrow. But who you are tonight means nothing to who you're going to be two days from now."

The final marks the third-straight playoff series where Edmonton has come back to win after falling behind in the pitch count, so to speak. The Oilers were also down 3-2 and facing elimination against the Vancouver Canucks in Round 2, then had a 2-1 deficit against the Dallas Stars before flipping a switch and winning three-straight games to advance.

Edmonton forward Derek Ryan then took a high-sticking penalty, but his teammates once again killed off the threat before McLeod and Nurse, with a primary assist from Skinner after a terrific save, scored into the empty net to spark wild scenes inside and outside Rogers Place.

A team that climbed out of a regular-season hole that had them sitting 32nd in the overall standings before eventually going on a 16-game winning streak — and a pair of other long runs — the Oilers now head to South Florida sitting one win from hockey's ultimate prize.

"Game 7’s going to be my last game coaching this group," Knoblauch said. "Some people are going to be moving on, that's just the nature of the business.
