T20 World Cup :England thrash West Indies by eight wickets

The T20 World Cup match between England and West Indies was a highly anticipated event in the cricket world. England's victory over West Indies by eight wickets was a display of exceptional skill and teamwork.

England's bowlers put up a stellar performance, restricting the West Indies batsmen to a low total of 55 runs. The bowlers showed great discipline and accuracy, making it difficult for the West Indies batsmen to score freely.

Earlier cameos from Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford ensured West Indies reached a competent 180 after Jos Buttler’s England won the toss and opted to bowl first.

With the win England is off the mark in the Super Eight stage of the tournament after having an up-down group stage. West Indies on the contrary have brushed sides away in the group stage but have been hammered today by England.

England had won the toss on the night and opted to bowl first. The West Indies openers were off to a timid start in the first two overs, before Brandon King decided it was time to unleash himself after a change of bats. The opener hit a 101-metre six and followed it up with 3 boundaries before disaster struck. While batting on 23, King was struck with what seemed like a groin injury and he had to go off the field. Nicholas Pooran and Johnson Charles consolidated things before Charles started to cut loose.

Salt remained, and though he did end up slowing down, Bairstow was on hand to pick up the slack, striking 46 off 21 up to the 16th over. It was then that Salt tagged back in, and unfurled a brutal attack on Romario Shepherd, striking the seamer for 30 with three fours and three sixes - the joint-most expensive over by a West Indian in a T20 World Cup.

The first of those boundaries brought up Salt's half-century from 38 deliveries, before he skewered any remaining jeopardy. It left West Indies to rue a half chance to remove Salt on seven in the third over, when he toed a hack across the line through to Pooran, who could not hold on.

Salt completed a 38-ball fifty when he smoked Shepherd for four over the covers at the start of the 16th over and then proceeded to pump a six down the ground before uppercutting a slower ball over wicketkeeper Pooran for four.

The opener continued his assault with sixes over long-off and deep backward square and concluded a run-laden over by belting a full toss through the off-side, leaving his team requiring just 10 from 24 deliveries and the game all but won.
