Elmore grew up in Arkansas and received a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Arkansas State University. After earning a Master of Arts degree in broadcasting and film at the University of Memphis, he served as the university’s media relations director and as an assistant professor in the journalism department. He then worked as a general assignment reporter, weekend anchor and feature reporter for WHBQ-TV in Memphis. During his five years there, he co-hosted the station’s PM Magazine. Joe moved to Nashville in 1985 and began working on shows for the Nashville Network.
