An abandoned campfire left in the days before the Interlaken fire started Tuesday south of Twin Lakes in Lake County is the likely cause of the growing wildfire, according to a U.S. Forest Service investigator. In an update Wednesday night, the Forest Service said investigator located a campfire ring left 60 yards from the Interlaken trail and 1.5 miles from the trailhead where the fire likely started.  “This campfire was not properly extinguished and continued to burn. It is believed that the campfire was abandoned several days prior to its report on June 11,” the Forest Service said in a social media post.  Officials do not have any leads on who might have started the fire.
