Apple has recently announced the incorporation of new artificial intelligence features into their iPhones, marking a significant advancement in mobile technology. These AI features will undoubtedly revolutionize the way users interact with their devices, bringing a new level of convenience and efficiency to everyday tasks.
One of the most notable AI features coming to iPhones is the improved Siri functionality. With enhanced natural language processing capabilities, Siri will be able to better understand and respond to user commands, making it easier than ever to access information and perform tasks hands-free.
Updates to its iPhone and Mac operating systems will allow access to ChatGPT through a partnership with developer OpenAI.
ChatGPT can also be used to boost other tools, including text and content generation. The test version will become available in the autumn.
Tim Cook, Apple chief executive, said the move would bring his company's products "to new heights" as he opened the Worldwide Developers Conference at the tech giant's headquarters in Cupertino, California.
Apple said its AI features will carry out actions between apps, as well as manage notifications, automatically write things for you, and summarize text in mail and other apps. As with other built-in AI writing tools, you can change the tone of something you’re writing with a prompt. The company also says its AI features can do things like reference one app to carry out an action in another, such as asking it to play a podcast your partner sent you.
Never short on ego, Apple is calling the system “Apple Intelligence” — seemingly trying to redefine “AI” from an initialism for artificial intelligence to one that refers to the Cupertino, California, company.
And Apple said it’s not waiting long to introduce its ideas to customers, rolling out the new AI capabilities this summer on iPhones, iPads and Macs.
Here’s how to make sense of what Apple unveiled during the two-hour kickoff of its annual event, the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference.
Apple Intelligence will enable transcription for phone calls, AI photo retouching and improvements in the natural conversation flow with Siri, the company said. The software can also be used to summarize notifications and text messages, as well as articles, documents and open web pages.
Federighi placed an emphasis on privacy, with a new system called Private Cloud Compute that he said will ensure data security for users.
Apple says the new features will be released later this year.
