WARREN — A Champion man faces life in prison in connection to the Christmas Eve 2023 rape of an 8-year-old girl. David L. Varner, 46, of Center Street SE, pleaded guilty Wednesday to two charges of rape and a charge of gross sexual imposition in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court. As part of an agreement with prosecutors, in exchange for his plea, a charge of attempted rape, with attempted rape specifications and one count of gross sexual impostion were dismissed. Judge Sean O’Brien also designated Varner a Tier 3 sex offender, which will require Varner, if he’s released from prison, to register his whereabouts every 90 days with the sheriff’s office in the county he resides in for the rema
