The recent Mega Millions drawing has captured the attention of millions across the nation, as it was announced that there is one winning ticket for the estimated $1.13 billion jackpot. This historic moment marks one of the largest lottery prizes in US history, sparking excitement and anticipation among hopeful players.
For many, the idea of winning such a staggering amount of money is nothing short of a dream come true. The possibilities that come with this kind of wealth are endless - from paying off debts and securing financial stability to indulging in luxurious vacations and extravagant purchases.
Mega Millions had gone more than three months without a jackpot winner, with 31 drawings since two tickets in California did the trick on Dec. 8.
Tuesday's winning numbers were 7, 11, 22, 29, 38, and Mega Ball 4.
The estimated jackpot was the eighth largest in U.S. lottery history. The biggest Mega Millions jackpot ever, $1.602 billion, was won on Aug. 8 of last year, when a single winning ticket was sold in Florida. The largest prize in U.S. lottery history, a $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot, was won in California in February of 2023.
Thirteen other tickets in Tuesday’s drawing won at least $1 million by matching the first five balls, Mega Millions officials said, including three sold in New York, two in Georgia, two in Florida, and one each in California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
One of the New York tickets won $2 million because its holder bought an optional Megaplier feature. The ticket in California, meanwhile, is worth slightly more than $1 million because prizes in that state depend on ticket sales and number of winners.
The next big U.S. lottery drawing will be Wednesday night for an estimated $865 million Powerball jackpot. No one has won that prize since New Year’s Day, making for 36 drawings without a winner.
Mega Millions is played in 45 states plus Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Powerball also is played in those states as well as Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
