The Philadelphia Eagles have made a bold move in the offseason by signing running back Saquon Barkley and defensive end Bryce Huff to a lucrative $37.75 million deal. This decision has sparked excitement among Eagles fans and raised expectations for the upcoming season.
Barkley, known for his explosive speed and agility, will undoubtedly provide a much-needed boost to the Eagles' rushing attack. His ability to break tackles and make big plays will add a dynamic element to the team's offense.
Cousins, the fifth-leading passer of all active quarterbacks, has left the Minnesota Vikings and agreed to a four-year deal with the Falcons, said his agent, Mike McCartney.
Cousins, 35, had spent six seasons in Minnesota, following six campaigns with the franchise now known as the Washington Commanders.
The two-time Pro Bowl running back rushed for just 962 yards and six touchdowns for the Giants last season, missing three games with a high-ankle sprain suffered in a Week 2 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
Barkley, 27, played last season on an adjusted franchise tag that netted him $10.1 million after the two sides failed to reach an agreement on a long-term deal. The Giants eventually elected against using the tag again this year at $12.1 million, which allowed him to hit free agency.
The Eagles expect to use Barkley as a three-down workhorse they haven’t seen since LeSean McCoy’s heyday ended a decade ago. He should only strengthen an explosive offense — one that propelled the Eagles to a 10-1 start in 2023 — that includes Jalen Hurts, wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert.
Huff has 17 1/2 career sacks, 65 total tackles and one forced fumble in four seasons. The arrival of the 6-foot-3, 255-pound rusher could signal the end of either Josh Sweat or Haason Reddick’s time in Philadelphia.
The upside, though, is significant. Barkley can add a physical style of running that was largely missing last season and help unlock an offense that got stale down the stretch. And with a reputation of having strong character, the expectation is he'll be a locker room fit.
Bottom line, Barkley checked enough boxes for the Eagles to go out of their comfort zone and pay a running back big dollars.
