Billie Eilish made history at the Oscars by becoming the youngest two-time winner in the prestigious award show's history. The talented singer-songwriter took home two awards for her work on the soundtrack of the James Bond film "No Time to Die". Eilish, who first won an Oscar at just 18 years old for her song "Bad Guy", has continued to impress audiences and critics alike with her unique sound and powerful lyrics.
Eilish's success at such a young age is a testament to her incredible talent and hard work. Her ability to connect with audiences of all ages through her music has solidified her as one of the most influential artists of our time. As she continues to break records and push boundaries in the music industry, there is no doubt that Billie Eilish will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
Eilish and O’Connell had to defeat a lineup that contained another song from Barbie: I’m Just Ken, written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt and performed by Ryan Gosling. Other contenders included Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People) from Killers of the Flower Moon, and It Never Went Away from the documentary American Symphony.
Dressed in an oversized black-and-white tweed jacket, white shirt, pink neck bow and long black skirt, the fresh-faced 22-year-old pop star turned in a delicate rendition of the song as Finneas accompanied her on the piano as the stage was bathed in Barbie-pink lighting. The nine-time Grammy winner’s soft, emotional vocals were highlighted by the sparse piano accompaniment, then elevated even more as an orchestra kicked in midsong.
During the Oscars 2024 ceremony, The Zone of Interest director Jonathan Glazer talked about the themes in his movie and “dehumanization” in the context of Israel and Palestine while accepting the award for Best International Feature. “All our choices were made to reflect and confront us in the present … Our film shows where dehumanization leads at its worst," he said. "Right now we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has led to conflict for so many innocent people. Whether the victims of October 7th in Israel or the ongoing attack on, all the victims of this dehumanization, how do we resist?"
