Dubai Open predictions: Maria Sakkari vs Emma Navarro

The Dubai Open is set to showcase an exciting match between Maria Sakkari and Emma Navarro, two talented players with contrasting styles. Sakkari, known for her powerful groundstrokes and aggressive playing style, will be looking to dominate the court and overpower her opponent. On the other hand, Navarro, a rising star in the tennis world, is known for her finesse and strategic play.

In this highly anticipated match-up, both players will be looking to make a statement and advance in the tournament. Sakkari's experience on the professional circuit may give her an edge over Navarro, who is still relatively new to the scene. However, Navarro's youth and hunger for success could propel her to victory.

Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 8 seed, beat American Emma Navarro 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the last 16 of the Dubai Open at The Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Tuesday.

This was only the second win of the 2024 season for the Sakkari, who lost in the second round of the Australian Open and then her opening round matches in Abu Dhabi and Doha.

Eighth seed Maria Sakkari will seek to get back to winning ways when she takes on the unseeded Emma Navarro next in Dubai. They will square off in the second round with the winner next playing either Jasmine Paolini, Bernarda Pera, or Leylah Fernandez. Maria Sakkari is experiencing a dip in form at the moment and comes to this match having lost her last three fixtures. She was defeated in the first round in Doha last time out. The Greek number one’s struggles have seen her tumble out of the WTA top 10 for the first time in four years. She starts the week ranked 11th in the live ranking. Sakkari, who has so far compiled a 4-3 record in 2024, last played in Dubai nine years ago.

Navarro, on the other hand, has performed quite well so far. She reached the semifinals of the ASB Classic and then captured her maiden WTA title at the Hobart International. She followed it up with a third-round showing at the Australian Open, her best result at a Major to date.

Navarro made it to the third round of the Qatar Open but lost to Elena Rybakina in three sets. She staged a comeback to defeat Katerina Siniakova 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the first round here. The American has won thrice as many matches as Sakkari this year and given their recent form, will be favored to advance further.
