The victim was sleeping in a bunk bed at the civic facility on First Avenue in downtown San Diego when the assault occurred at about 3:45 a.m., according to police. Following the attack, the 33-year-old suspected assailant left the shelter and walked off to the south, according to Officer David O’Brien of the San Diego Police Department.
