UFC 297:Neil Magny Finishes Mike Malott

The world of mixed martial arts was set ablaze on a fateful night when UFC 297 showcased an electrifying bout between Neil Magny and Mike Malott. The anticipation was palpable as the two fighters stepped into the octagon, ready to leave it all on the line. Little did the audience know that they were about to witness a display of skill, determination, and sheer willpower.

From the opening bell, it was evident that both Magny and Malott were hungry for victory. Their strikes were precise, their grappling exchanges intense. Each fighter showcased their unique style, making it difficult to predict who would emerge victorious. However, as the rounds progressed, it became apparent that Neil Magny possessed an uncanny ability to adapt and overcome.

Neil Magny, known for his exceptional striking abilities and relentless stamina, entered the octagon with an impressive record. His opponent, Mike Malott, was a rising star in the MMA scene, boasting an impressive grappling game and raw power. The stage was set for an epic showdown between two fighters at the top of their game.

Malott, the huge -350 favorite, manhandled Magny for the better part of three and a half rounds. "The Haitian Sensation" endured the young gun's offense, however, reversing the tides in the dying seconds of the fight and securing an upset TKO.

Malott continued the success of Magny’s previous opponent Ian Garry with effective kicks that chewed up the lead leg of Magny. After one kick in particular, Magny did a little pogo hop, which was audibly picked up on by the crowd.

Magny came out more aggressive in Round 2 and pressed Malott with a combination. The move backfired as the two fighters bumped into the fence. The recoil gave Malott the momentum he needed to seamlessly transition into a takedown. Magny rose to his feet after a short period on the ground.

A staple of the UFC’s 170-pound division for a decade, Magny has written his name in the welterweight history books, holding UFC records for most wins, fight time, and significant strikes. Even so, Magny as struggled of late, alternating wins and losses for his past six bouts. At 36 years old, time is running out for Magny to make a real run at the belt, and to do so, he’ll have to get past one of the division’s rising stars.

Two rounds down and it was pretty clear that Magny needed a finish. And that’s exactly what the wily veteran did. Malott — who had never seen a third round in his UFC career — secured a super fast takedown in the final frame. Magny was able to get back to his feet, but a big trip moments later had him on his back once more. It was at that point that Malott appeared to totally shut down. Magny started to get the better of the scrambling, eventually ending up in top position. And then over the course of two minutes, he wore down an exhausted Malott with a barrage of punches. Malott had nothing left, laying on his side just eating knuckle sandwiches until the referee had finally seen enough.
