SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – Austin College student volunteers assisted in a Special Olympics basketball tournament for over 400 athletes, coming from all over North Texas. “Well we’re just chilling and we’re playing Special Olympics basketball, we’re just having fun right now,” Athlete Divine Mboni stated. The tournament is a part of ‘Jan Serve’, an event created in 2013 by Austin College alumna Katie Williams. The goal is to encourage hands on service in the community. “The disabilities community is often hidden from sight, usually, and so we don’t have a lot of interaction, and it’s a fantastic way to interact and to learn about different people,” Williams shared.
