Jannik Sinner and Andrey Rublev win in first round in Australian Open 2024

In the thrilling opening round of the Australian Open 2024, rising stars Jannik Sinner and Andrey Rublev showcased their immense talent and determination as they emerged victorious. The match was a true display of skill, athleticism, and mental fortitude.

Jannik Sinner, the young Italian sensation, demonstrated why he is considered one of the most promising players in the tennis world. With his powerful groundstrokes and impeccable footwork, he outplayed his opponent with ease. Sinner's ability to maintain composure under pressure was evident as he executed precise shots that left Rublev scrambling to keep up.

Jannik Sinner, a 20-year-old Italian player, faced off against compatriot Maxime Cressy in a thrilling match. Sinner displayed his exceptional shot-making abilities and remarkable composure under pressure. Despite a valiant effort from Cressy, Sinner emerged victorious with a straight-set win. His powerful groundstrokes and strategic play left spectators in awe and cemented his status as one to watch in the tournament.

In a thrilling clash in Melbourne, Rublev survived a major scare to overcome the Brazilian 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6(10-6) and reach the second round in Melbourne for the seventh time in eight appearances.

In the pair’s first Lexus ATP Head2Head meeting, Rublev failed to convert four match points on Seyboth Wild’s serve at 5-6 in the fifth set, including three from 0/40. However, he regained his composure in the decisive tie-break, rallying from 2/5 to eventually triumph on his fifth match point after three hours and 43 minutes.

The defending champions, Djokovic and Sabalenka, showcased their skills on the first day. Djokovic, on a remarkable 28-match winning streak at Melbourne Park, faced Croatia's Dino Prizmic, eyeing an unprecedented 11th Australian Open title. Sabalenka, the women's singles No. 2 seed, took on Ella Seidel at Rod Laver Arena.

Rublev remains Australian world No.10 Alex de Minaur's projected fourth-round opponent.

"I will not forget this match, Thiago is a super dangerous player, super talented," Rublev said.

"When I was losing 4-1 I mentally give up and maybe that's what helped me in the end, I went with nothing to lose."

Earlier, Jannik Sinner's bid for his first grand slam title got off to a convincing start after the Italian eased past Dutch challenger Botic van de Zandschulp.

In the next game Seyboth fell to 0-40 under intense pressure from the Russian but he fended off those match points plus another to take the match to a tie-break.

The Brazilian raced into a 4-1 lead and then led 6-4 but Rublev stayed in the fight deep, winning the last six points and sealing the match with an ace.

He collapsed to the ground before letting out a guttural roar.

Rublev admitted that he relaxed in the deciding tie-break, believing he was heading out of the tournament.

"When I was losing 4-1, mentally I gave up and maybe that's what helped me in the end. I felt it's not my day but then I hit some good serves and good returns."
