In the highly anticipated season finale between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers, the Bears fell short with a disappointing 9-17 loss. The game was a true testament to the fierce rivalry between these two teams, as both sides fought relentlessly until the final whistle.
From the start, it was evident that both teams were determined to end their seasons on a high note. The Packers' offense came out strong, quickly gaining momentum and putting points on the board. However, the Bears' defense remained resilient throughout the game, making crucial stops and preventing further damage.
Justin Fields connected on 11 of 16 passes for 148 yards and a 97.9 passer rating. The Bears rushing attack mustered 75 yards on 25 carries.
With the loss, the Bears finished in fourth place in the NFC North with a 7-10 record. They've now dropped 10 straight games to the Packers, last winning in 2018, and eight consecutive games at Lambeau Field, last winning in 2015.
The Saints entered Sunday at 8-8 and needed to win and either have Tampa Bay lose (the Buccaneers defeated Carolina to win the NFC South) or have the Packers and Seattle Seahawks lose. The Saints defeated the Atlanta Falcons 48-17, finishing 9-8, and gave Coach Dennis Allen his first winning season as a head coach by winning four of the final five games of the season.
Green Bay (9-8) held off the Bears and will play the Dallas Cowboys in a wild-card playoff game. Seattle also won, beating Arizona 21-20.
Last season will forever be remembered as the last in Rodgers' accolade-filled Green Bay tenure, while this campaign has been marked by Love taking the reins.
The rest of the NFC playoff schedule will see the 6-seed Los Angeles Rams visit the 3-seed Detroit Lions and the 5-seed Philadelphia Eagles travel to take on the 4-seed Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If the Cowboys defeat the Packers, they will host the highest remaining seed in the Divisional Round while the 1-seed San Francisco 49ers will host the lowest remaining seed.
As the 2-seed, the Cowboys would need the 49ers to lose in the Divisional Round to host a potential NFC Championship Game. An appearance would give Dallas its first NFC Championship Game since 1995 — when the franchise last won a Super Bowl.
