The driver of a Cadillac SUV was killed early Saturday when the vehicle veered off Highway 101 in northern Mendocino County and crashed into a tree, the California Highway Patrol reported. According to the CHP, an unidentified male was driving northbound on Hwy. 101 in a 2020 Cadillac Escalade around 1:15 a.m. Nov. 18 when, “for reasons still under investigation,” the vehicle drove off the west edge of the roadway north of Steele Lane near Laytonville and collided with a tree. After the vehicle came to a stop on its wheels at the base of the highway embankment, the CHP reports that it “became fully engulfed in flames and the driver of the Cadillac succumbed to their injuries at the scene.” T
