The UEFA Champions League continues on Wednesday with a Group C match between Real Madrid and Braga. You can catch the action on Paramount+. Real Madrid are 14-time European champions and sit on top of Group C after the first three matchdays with nine points. Braga sits third with three points, but should be riding high coming off a 6-1 win over Portimonense in the Primeira Liga over the weekend. However, expect a focused Real Madrid squad since a win clinches a spot in the knockout rounds.
Brahim Diaz, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo scored as Real Madrid cruised into the round of 16 of the Champions League with two group games remaining after a 3-0 victory over Portuguese side Braga on Wednesday.
Real manager Carlo Ancelotti rested several regular starters, but the 14-times champions maintained their 100% record to lead Group C with 12 points from four games. They could secure top spot with a point at home in their next game against Napoli.
The visitors regrouped at the break, and actually retook the lead against all odds through a Bruno Fernandes spot kick. But willed on by their fans, it was always going to be hard to keep Copenhagen from further capitalizing on the numerical advantage.
Diaz was close to a second 10 minutes into the second half after Vinicius cut the ball back, but his first effort was stopped by the goalkeeper and his follow-up shot blocked by Jose Fonte.
Real were turning up the heat, and the second goal came in the 58th minute as Vinicius finished off a neat move, cutting past Fonte and finding the bottom corner.
And they killed the game off three minutes later, hitting Braga on the break as Rodrygo exchanged passes with Vinicius before lifting the ball over the goalkeeper.
Braga dropped back in numbers to ensure there was no fourth on the night and almost got a goal of their own in stoppage time through Abel Ruiz’s header, which was well saved by Lunin.
Sure enough, the hosts found the net twice over the final seven minutes of regular time, dooming Man United to what felt like an inevitable 4-3 defeat. Copenhagen's winner was scored by 17-year-old substitute Roony Bardghji.
