12:51 p.m. — Blizzard president Mike Ybarra returns to close the show (and these updates.)
After a few years of canceled or online-only events, Blizzard’s annual convention is returning to an in-person format. BlizzCon 2023 will once again take place at the Anaheim Convention Center and will span November 3rd and 4th. In terms of announcements, most of the news will likely come out of the opening ceremony, which will be live on November 3rd at 2PM ET. You can expect the usual updates for Blizzard’s big, ongoing games — think Diablo IV, Overwatch 2, Hearthstone, and World of Warcraft — but there’s also a chance we’ll hear about something brand new, like the studio’s mysterious survival game. Also, there will be a K-pop concert featuring Le Sserafim.
Blizzard has announced The Wondersoul Saga, a larger narrative that will contain the next three expansions for World of Warcraft. The first of these expansions will be called The War Within and will be released in 2024.
WoW legend Chris Metzen, who recently returned as executive creative director of the Warcraft franchise, stopped by BlizzCon to reveal the news and say these expansions will be the "culmination of the first 20 years of our storytelling" that will "vector us into the next 20 years of adventure."
In Season of Discovery, players will discover new secrets by scouring Azeroth to find class-altering abilities. Tanking Warlocks, Mage healers, and more will be possible. The Season will launch with an initial level cap of 25, and upon reaching max level, players will be met with a new level-25 endgame! Discover a 10-player Blackfathom Deeps raid with new and reimagined bosses, mechanics, and rewards. Not long after, the level cap will be increased by a few levels, bringing even more endgame content.
For Overwatch 2, it has been confirmed that Blizzard will be revealing the game's next tank hero at the show. While Overwatch, Diablo, and WoW are the three biggest games at the show, expect news about Blizzard's card game Hearthstone and its new mobile game, Warcraft Rumble, as well. Warcraft Rumble will actually launch worldwide as BlizzCon 2023 starts.
It's worth noting that Blizzard is now officially owned by Microsoft. Will there be some kind of announcement at the opening ceremony regarding Xbox's plans for Blizzard games to appear on Game Pass or perks for Xbox players? That's currently unclear, but it might not be off the table. Regardless, there are certain to be surprises, so fans will no doubt want to tune in to watch the show as it unfolds.
