A Washington state senator was arrested in Hong Kong after packing an unloaded firearm in his carry-on luggage on his flight. The office of state Sen. Jeff Wilson (R) said he was arrested at the Hong Kong airport Friday night after realizing mid-flight that he packed an unloaded handgun in his carry-on and reporting it to customs authorities when he landed. “It was an honest mistake, and I expect the situation to be resolved shortly,” he said. His office said he was charged with the possession of an unregistered firearm and was released on Sunday after he posted bail. His first hearing is on Oct. 30. His handgun is registered in Washington, but not Hong Kong, his office noted.
