October 19, 2023 (WASHINGTON) – The United States has condemned the shelling of civilians by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in some parts of Khartoum and South Darfur states. “The United States is deeply concerned by credible reports that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has intensified its shelling in and around Nyala, South Darfur and Karari, Omdurman, deepening the suffering of the Sudanese people,” read a statement by the State Department on Thursday. The condemnation comes after reports that the RSF targeted residential areas in Karari to force civilians to flee the army-controlled area, which was perceived as a safe haven for civilians displaced from other areas of the Sudanese capital.
