The dramatic, comeback win was in reach for the Seahawks when Geno Smith hit Tyler Locket for a big gain that put Seattle only 11-yards away from a game-winning touchdown.
But three plays later, following a short run and two incomplete passes, Smith was hit as he threw, the ball falling to the turf as the Bengals celebrated a 17-13 win.
It was a frustrating finish to a game the Seahawks felt like the could have and should have won, especially because of how many opportunities they had to take the lead in the second half with the defense doing its part to stop the Bengals.
But after managing only three points on four trips inside the 10-yard line in the second half, the Seahawks were unable to finish off a win, and head back to Seattle with a 3-2 record they feel could be a game better.
The Bengals won two in a row for the first time this season and improved to 3-3 going into their bye week.
“It’s better to win ugly than lose pretty,” Bengals coach Zac Taylor said. “That’s the first thing that hit me when I walked off the field. At times it felt ugly, especially on offense, but again our defense stepped up and made some big plays for us that allowed us to get out of there.”
The Bengals halted Seattle on fourth-and-8 from the Bengals 9 when Smith was hit by B.J. Hill and threw incomplete with 35 seconds left.
On the Seahawks' previous drive, Smith was sacked by Sam Hubbard on fourth-and-goal at the Bengals 6 to turn the ball back over to Cincinnati.
For Bengals vs. Seahawks, the model is picking Over 45 total points to be scored. Windy conditions could force both teams to run the ball more, but the model still sees these sides putting plenty of points on the board. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow exploded for three TDs against the Cardinals in Week 5.
Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith has a 68.3 completion percentage through Seattle's first four games of the season and the team is the healthiest it has been all season. This game could be a close but high-scoring affair and the over is very reasonable to hit.
