Kenston junior Brooke McNeal will head to this weekend’s state tournament as a district champion after winning the top spot Oct. 14 at the Division II Northeast District tournament at Springside Athletic Club. McNeal cruised to the semifinal round then had to battle to get to the final, as she defeated Laurel’s Riba Tahir, 6-3, 6-4. In the championship match, McNeal defeated Hawken’s Dani Forte. She won the first set, 7-6, then ousted Forte in the second set, 6-1. Also advancing to state in D-II singles was Gilmour’s Abigail Lynch, who earned the fifth and final state qualifying spot.
