Hackers claim ex-president dead on sons X account

A spokesman for former President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Donald Trump Jr.’s account on X – the platform formerly known as Twitter – had been compromised after the account began sharing a series of unusual and erratic posts.

“Don’s account has been hacked,” Andrew Surabian posted on X, adding that a post claiming the former president had died was “obviously not true.”

In addition to falsely pronouncing the death of the senior Trump, the compromised account also claimed that Trump Jr. would be running for president himself. Within minutes, the post had been reshared more than 1,000 times on X and viewed hundreds of thousands of times.

Another post appeared to threaten the country of North Korea, while a pinned post on the account’s profile insulted President Joe Biden with the use of a racist epithet.

"Don's account has been hacked," Andrew Surabian, a spokesman for Mr Trump Jr, posted on X, adding that the post was "obviously not true".

Mr Trump Jr has since posted on X, formerly Twitter, but has not alluded to his account being compromised other than to "like" a tweet saying he had been hacked.

X has been contacted for comment. An automatic reply from the company's press email reads: "Busy now, please check back later."

Mr Trump Jr has continued to use the Elon Musk-owned platform.

Truth Social was founded by the former president after his X account was suspended in 2021 due to the risk of incitement of violence.

Trump’s increased campaigning in the state coincides with ramped up activity from MAGA Inc., the super PAC backing Trump’s presidential campaign. The super PAC spent more than $700,000 on new ad bookings last week to add to its airtime on broadcast and cable in key Iowa media markets. Up until this point, the group had devoted most of its advertising budget to national campaigns on cable networks.

The autoworkers strike has become an unavoidable topic in the GOP primary and candidates have begun to weigh in. Scott on Monday responded to a voter’s question about whether he would insert himself in the strike. Scott responded by pointing to when Ronald Reagan fired federal employees that were striking. “He said, ‘You strike, you’re fired.’ Simple concept to me, to the extent that we can use that once again.
