Robert Sanchez joins Chelsea with £25m deal

The Spain international, who has made 87 Premier League appearances, has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge and will soon join up with the first-team squad at Cobham.

Co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart said: ‘We’re very pleased to welcome Robert to Chelsea and he adds further quality to our goalkeeping unit.

‘Robert has repeatedly proved himself in the Premier League and been capped by his country. We are excited to watch him work with Mauricio and his coaching team during the season ahead.’

Chelsea have signed Spain goalkeeper Robert Sánchez from Brighton on a seven-year contract, the club announced on Saturday.

ESPN reported on Thursday that Chelsea had agreed a fee in the region of £25 million ($31.7m) for the 25-year-old.

Chelsea have been looking to bolster their goalkeeping options since Edouard Mendy joined Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli in June.

Chelsea are looking to revive their fortunes under new manager Mauricio Pochettino after coming 12th in the Premier League last season -- their worst finish since 1994.

Chelsea have completed the signing of Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez on a seven-year deal.

The 25-year-old cost a reported £25 million and leaves the Seagulls after a decade on the south coast.

"Robert has repeatedly proved himself in the Premier League and been capped by his country," Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, Chelsea's co-sporting directors, said in a statement.

"Robert has repeatedly proved himself in the Premier League and been capped by his country. We are excited to watch him work with Mauricio [Pochettino] and his coaching team during the season ahead."

Sanchez had recently been at odds with Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi and lost his place to Jason Steele. Brighton’s signing of Bart Verbruggen earlier in the summer saw him fall further down the pecking order.

Sanchez was eligible to represent England after joining Brighton’s academy at the age of 15, and counts as a homegrown player, but made his debut for Spain in 2021 and went to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

He made 90 appearances for Brighton, keeping 29 clean sheets.
