Man Utd £47m deal , they have the perfect player

Manchester United fans were treated to a first glimpse of Mason Mount in action for the Reds during our opening pre-season friendly against Leeds.

The midfielder played the first 45 minutes of our eventual 2-0 win - with goals coming in the second half via youngsters Noam Emeran and Joe Hugill - before being replaced at half-time as Erik ten Hag changed his entire XI. Mount’s performance was lively and certainly pleased those lucky enough to have a ticket to watch first hand at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo.

Mehdi Taremi’s agent, Borna Khoramdel, posted a picture of Manchester United’s badge on Instagram, and The Sun reports the player is a target for Erik ten Hag’s side.

“The agent of one of Manchester United's top transfer targets sent fans into a frenzy after appearing to post a picture from Old Trafford on Instagram,” the paper writes of the development.

The Red Devils have already spent £55m to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea and now their attention has switched to acquiring a goalkeeper to replace David De Gea.

They have been linked with Diogo Costa and David Raya but Inter Milan’s Onana has emerged as their top target in that area.

The midfielder makes his first appearance for the Reds after being named in the starting line-up for the Oslo encounter, and the boss is clearly delighted to have landed his man in time to participate in all of our preparation for the 2023/24 campaign.

After being linked with other top clubs during the latter part of his stay at Chelsea, there is a great deal of satisfaction that Mount is now our man, as well as excitement to see how he will fit into the manager's plans, in terms of his role and output.

On his United bow, Mount collected possession immediately in front of the centre-backs more than he used to for Chelsea. He was involved further back in the build-up than before. He played as a prompter, passing forward with crisp purpose. He enjoyed it.

If that is what United require, an all-rounder in midfield, an encouraging element was that Mount looked fit on his first appearance since April after injury curtailed the worst season of his career. He went off after 45 minutes as Ten Hag made 11 changes.
