Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office deputies were on routine patrol at 11:22 p.m. July 12 near Highway 101 and the Perkins Street off-ramp when they observed a vehicle with inoperable tail lights traveling south on Highway 101. The deputies stopped the vehicle and spoke with the occupants. The front passenger was identified as Aaron Simpson, 45, of Ukiah, who consented to a search of his person and backpack, according to an MCSO news release.
