Costco shoppers have something new to look forward to just before Thanksgiving. The warehouse giant is preparing to open a brand-new location in Wisconsin, and it will be noticeably larger than the average Costco store.
The new warehouse in Franklin, a suburb of Milwaukee, is scheduled to open on Tuesday, November 24, 2026, just two days before Thanksgiving, according to Costco’s official website.
And its size is one of the most interesting details. The new store will cover approximately 164,000 square feet, compared with the 148,000-square-foot average reported in Costco’s 2026 annual report. That makes the Franklin location roughly 11% larger than the typical Costco warehouse.
But there’s more to the development than extra shopping space: according to a May 2026 announcement from the City of Franklin, the project occupies a 20-acre site previously owned by Northwestern Mutual. Plans include 868 parking spaces and a gas station with 12 pumps.
The development is also expected to create more than 100 jobs in the area, according to CBS 58. The opening is particularly significant for Milwaukee County, which will welcome its first current Costco warehouse. Shoppers in the surrounding region already have access to locations in communities including New Berlin, Pewaukee and Menomonee Falls.
Interestingly, the Franklin opening was originally scheduled for November 25, the day before Thanksgiving. However, the company subsequently moved the date forward by one day, as the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported in October.
The new warehouse will be located at 7829 S. 27th Street in Franklin, according to Costco’s official store listing. For local shoppers planning their holiday grocery runs, the timing means they’ll have a new Costco to explore just before one of the busiest food-shopping occasions of the year. And with 164,000 square feet of space, there should be plenty of room to stock up.
