The Internal Revenue Service announced increases to federal income tax brackets for 2027, allowing Americans to earn more taxable income before moving into a higher bracket.
While the tax rates remain the same, the income thresholds for each bracket have risen.
The IRS adjusts tax brackets each year for inflation, so households aren’t pushed into a higher bracket simply because their income rose while their purchasing power stayed the same. The changes come at a time when many Americans are feeling the strain of higher costs for housing, groceries, gas and other everyday needs.
The lowest tax rate is 10% for single individuals earning $12,800 or less and married couples filing jointly earning $25,600 or less. Meanwhile, the top tax rate is 37% for single filers earning more than $661,375 and married couples filing jointly earning more than $793,650.
Those in between are taxed according to the bracket their income falls into.
