ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Veterans Outreach Center (VOC) held its annual Stars & Stripes Celebration on Friday to honor those who have served in the Armed Forces and to remember the fallen.
The celebration at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center started at 5:30 p.m. The event featured a silent auction, dinner, and dancing.
All the funds raised supports all the programs and services that the VOC operates.
“We’ve been in the community for 53 years. We’re a nonprofit, so we really rely on events like tonight to help drive our programs,” said Laura Heltz, executive director of the VOC.
Heltz talked about the VOC’s Table of Honor, which is set up every year to honor those who’ve died in combat since 9/11 from this region. “It is very powerful, we show their picture up on the screen, and we’ve got some gold tablecloths at tables around that centerpiece, and that’s their families. So, it’s out Goldstar families that are there, seeing their loved ones being honored and not forgotten,” said Heltz.
