Big smartphones have long been the norm. It seems many, if not most, of us prefer our smartphones to be akin to tiny tablets. Even Apple's smallest iPhone isn't that small, with a 6.1-inch display. (Compare that to the 5.4-inch iPhone mini it used to sell.) But just because a lot of us like it that way doesn't mean all of us do.
While the rumor mill does not suggest that Apple plans to make a new iPhone mini, that doesn't mean the dream of the tiny smartphone is dead. Enter "Enough Phone," a new device with a humble goal: to create a "small, modern smartphone that's enough."
Enough Phone specs
Enough Phone really does seem small. The company says its upcoming device is 133mm by 64mm, and less than 12mm thick. That's the equivalent of 5.24 inches by 2.52 inches, and less than 0.47 inches thick. It's remarkably similar to the iPhone 13 mini, at 5.18 by 2.53 inches, and 0.3 inches thick. While the Enough Phone might be a tad larger overall, and perhaps noticeably thicker, it's still reminiscent of that "mini" footprint.

Credit: Enough/KickstarterAs for the Enough Phone's other specs, the company says it plans to pack in a 2.4GHz MediaTek Dimensity 7500 chip with 8GB of RAM, 128GB of built-in storage, though you can expand that with a microSD card (something you don't see on many smartphones these days). The current plan is to ship with a single 50MP Sony IMX766 rear camera, and a 32MP selfie cam, which would be amongst the highest-resolution front-facing cameras on any smartphone. It supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, and eSIM, with the option to use a physical SIM as well.
Now, all of these specs are targets, as the phone is currently in the prototype stage. Enough says that final details may change "slightly" during testing. I would at least hope that the dimensions, particularly the screen size, remain the same by launch. What will likely stay the same, however, are the ringtones: Enough says they hired composer Brian Squillance of LAANDS to produce the jingles for its phone, which is a neat touch.
Of course, neither operating system is iOS. Unfortunately for Apple users, the only true iPhone options here are to continue using an old iPhone mini, which Apple does still support, or to opt for an iPhone 17e, the smallest iPhone the company currently makes. It's pretty easy to find a used and refurbished iPhone 13 mini for reasonable price; but while they can still run the latest version of iOS, you won't be able to take advantage of all of Apple's newest features. Plus, while there's no telling how long Apple plans to support the 13 line for, it won't support it forever—by iOS 28 or iOS 29, your phone might lose support entirely.
You can back Enough Phone right now
If the promise of a modern mini smartphone entices you, you can back the Enough Phone on Kickstarter today. While the company's $399 "Super Early Bird" reward is already sold out, as of this article, the "Early Bird" reward is still up. That reward costs $449, and includes a glass screen protector pre-installed, a protective case, a USB-C cable, a USB-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter, a hex screwdriver, and green "Founders' Edition" backplate screws. Enough says that the retail price for its phone will be $599 after the campaign, so you can save $150 by backing the phone today—if you're serious about small phones. The Enough Phone is slated for a May 2027 launch.
