Bill Skarsgård isn’t afraid to channel one of his creepiest roles in order to maintain some structure in his household, even if things get a little scary.

During today’s episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the 36-year-old actor shared a brief look inside his fatherhood journey and the unique parenting techniques he uses when his kids are misbehaving.

Skarsgård shares two children with his longtime partner, Alida Morberg. The couple has kept their kids’ ages, sex and birthdays private.

“I would imagine you’re not doing your Pennywise voice in the company of your children. Have they heard you do Pennywise?” host Josh Horowitz asked. Skarsgård admitted he’ll turn on the voice “if they misbehave”.

But that isn’t the only character who has made an appearance. He revealed that several voices have “slipped in and out” based on his kids’ behavior, including Nosferatu. “He can slip out there. Can slip in, can slip out, and Nosferatu can pop in,” Skarsgård continued.

“There’s a whole colorful bunch of schizophrenic daddy,” he added, referring to the surprise personalities his children might be introduced to.

Skarsgård made his first terrifying appearance as the dancing killer clown in 2017’s It Chapter One. Winning over fans with his dark portrayal of the movie villain, Skarsgård reprised his role in 2019’s It Chapter Two and in HBO’s 2025 It: Welcome to Derry series. In 2024, he made his debut as Count Orlok in Nosferatu.

Later in the interview, he revealed that at this point in his career, he’s a little “spent” playing villains, but he could change his mind if there were a fresh take on a villain that really compelled him.

“It would have to be something that felt original to me, that was something that I hadn’t done before,” he said. “I feel, kind of, spent with those things. But there are villains [that] could be really fun in different ways, and if it’s the right kind.”

“A lot of people ask me what goes into picking your roles or whatever and I don’t really know how to say it other than I feel drawn or compelled,” he explained. “It’s something that you can’t really put your words on it and describe why it’s happening.”

“I’ve also noticed that I don’t want to become jaded…which means that I think I could probably go long stretches without working and just waiting for something to be compelling enough for me to work on.”
