Universal Orlando Resort’s newest theme park, Universal Epic Universe, has an abundance of attractions, dining, and entertainment themed around some of the biggest movie franchises in history, including Harry Potter and How to Train Your Dragon. But one of the most unique lands inside Epic Universe is Dark Universe. The spooky world celebrates some of the most popular movie monsters, like Frankenstein’s Monster and The Invisible Man. Dark Universe already has two rides, but Universal just announced a third attraction will make its way to the spooky streets of Darkmoor soon.
The new addition will be an indoor roller coaster located next to the already popular Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment. The coaster will feature an all-new story inspired by the Universal Monsters franchise, but other details are still buried in the catacombs of Frankenstein Manor.
View this post on InstagramFan reaction was swift after Universal dropped its biggest news of 2026. Fans said everything from “Best news ever!” and “This is incredible news” to more cheeky takes like “Darkmoor is getting…darker” and “I pledge allegiance to Ygor.”
Construction on the coaster has already begun, though Universal has not given an opening timeline for the new Dark Universe attraction.
There are a host of new offerings debuting in late 2026 and through 2027 to keep fans occupied before the new Epic Universe coaster opens. These include the reimagined Universal Horror Make-Up Show at Universal Studios Florida. The show will feature Blumhouse and open later this year.
In 2027, Universal Studios Florida will open a new high-speed outdoor roller coaster: Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift. The coaster is currently being built in the same spot where the now-defunct Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit was. It will have a 170-foot-tall vertical spike, and riders can experience 360-degree drifting.
Two more new venues will open at Universal Orlando Resort next year. The first is a new signature full-service restaurant in Jurassic Park at Islands of Adventure. The second is Luke Combs’ Category 10, a new music and live entertainment venue inside the bustling CityWalk entertainment district.
With so many exciting moments on the horizon for Universal Orlando Resort, there’s never been a better time to plan your next getaway to the sprawling theme park complex. I, for one, can’t wait to see what theme the new Dark Universe coaster will be and try out the new Jurassic Park restaurant.
