BROCKPORT, N.Y. — Brockport High School went into lockdown on Thursday morning because of “concerning statements” related to a video game, according to the district.
Brockport Superintendent Sean Bruno said the lockdown lasted around 90 minutes before being lifted. All school activities have now resumed, and an investigation found that there was no direct threat.
Brockport Police, Monroe County sheriff’s deputies, and school security were all involved in the investigation and learned about the statements. Bruno said investigators also learned about an attempt to conceal a vaping device. Here’s the statement from Bruno:
“The lockdown at the high school has been lifted, and normal school operations have resumed. Following a thorough investigation in collaboration with law enforcement, it was determined that the concerning statements were related to a video game, while the observed behaviors involved an attempt to conceal a vaping device. We are pleased to report that no direct threat was identified.”“The lockdown lasted approximately 90 minutes. We recognize that this was an extended period of time and appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. It was important that we took the necessary time to thoroughly investigate the situation and ensure the safety of all students and staff before resuming normal school activities.”
Bruno said anyone who has a safety concern can report it online or by calling 1-877-453-0006.
